This film, 'The Story of Southern Islet', from Malaysian director Tsai Chih Chung is very simple; it is a story about a husband being subjected to a curse. However, this is by no means an imagined Southeast Asian horror film. Instead, it is a movie that explores boundaries, diaspora, supernatural beings, and the daily lives of hosts and guests. The story unfolds at the foot of Elephant Mountain, on the northern border of Malaysia.
