This training is for existing GNA volunteers and new volunteer recruits who wish to be part of a community that actively organises to tackle challenging human rights issues across Taiwan and Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Myanmar.
We highly recommend that applicants for this volunteer training are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months of volunteering. This duration allows volunteers to fully immerse themselves in the project, gain comprehensive knowledge and skills, and contribute meaningfully to the youth changemaker program. By committing to this timeframe, volunteers can maximise their impact and become integral members of our community-driven initiative.
What can I gain from this training?
- Obtain a clear understanding of GNA’s mission and your value as a volunteer.
- Understand the responsibilities of your working group and how you can use your skills for positive change on specific social issues.
- Learn about what is happening in Myanmar and how young individuals like yourself can mobilise to support.
- Connect with your future comrades with diverse linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds.

What volunteer opportunities and categories will this training be focused on?
We have a range of volunteer opportunities available to suit various interests and skills. We have divided our volunteer opportunities up into working groups to help youth work together and support each other.
Please see below the introduction to each group:
- Media Monitoring and GNA Weekly: Researching and keeping up to date with pressing human rights issues in Southeast Asia and presenting important weekly news to GNA’s community. Issuing GNA Weekly with your teammates for the core project of GNA.
- Social Media, Research and Articles: Raising awareness of Southeast Asia’s human rights issues by producing engaging social media and website content.
- Educational, Cultural and Community Building Events: Organising events for Taiwanese and Southeast Asians to build knowledge on grassroots engagement and provide a platform for cultural exchange and regional solidarity.
Why Myanmar?
Taiwan is home to over 40,000 Burmese and immigrants from Myanmar, a part of whom have fled Myanmar due to economic and political unrest in their home country. As they find safety in Taiwan, many among them are mobilising efforts to support their compatriots in Myanmar, aiding in the fight against the military junta who launched a coup on 1 February, 2021. GNA’s new project seeks to provide a platform for our youth changemakers to engage in grassroots initiatives, gain insights into critical regional issues, and lend support to Burmese activists and youth living in Taiwan.
Ready to make a difference? Please fill out the form to apply and register for GNA’s volunteer training.
